In January I was filmed with David Harper from Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip fame, for a new series of ' Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is' to be aired in the Spring 2012, on BBC2.

It's the 6th Series which is going to be aired on the Tuesday 8th May @ 5.15pm, BBC2, and also Monday 14th May- the final episode.

David had bought a cane chair at an antique fair, which he wanted me to buy off him. It's a lovely chair, and was in dire need of a new cane seat, so we struck a deal.

Upcycling
October 13th 2011

This month I've been busy in the workshop experimenting with recycled materials.

My Sari Stools are 100% recycled, made from second hand or antique stools which I then paint in Annie Sloane Chalk Paint, wax and polish.

They are then woven with the fabulous jewel like coloured remnants from sari manufacuring.

You can also browse our online shop with some lovely examples of cane furniture, look at the local hand made crafts we have on offer or simply watch us at work at the back of the shop.

The Cane Workshop is located in the historic market town of Alston, Cumbria, located in the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Alston is ideally located to be used as a base to visit the Yorkshire Dales, Northumbria, Hadrians Wall and a wealth of other places.

Feel free to drop in, ring us up, or email us and ask us questions about what we're doing and how we're doing it!

"Making things is my absolute passion and after 5 years caning as a hobby, I decided to turn it into a business. I cane in the traditional way and only use natural rattan cane. My background has always been in art and craft, and I have a BA(Hons) in Fine Art-Sculpture, from Wimbledon School Of Art."

"I'm based in the beautiful market town of Alston, Cumbria, allegedly the highest market town in England! The Cane Workshop itself is located in Stokoe House right next to the Market Cross in the centre of the town. Stokoe House is a 3 story shop dating back to 1611 and is worth a visit alone!"

"I can provide free estimates on request, and maintain extremely high standards for the execution and finish of my cane work."

"It is usual for your piece to be delivered to my studio and collected, but I am willing to make special arrangements on request."
