We restore all types of cane furniture, from traditional rattan cane through to more unusual items. Have a browse of our gallery to see some examples of our work.

In our gallery there is a record of some of the more unusual chairs we've restored and some also have the 'Before & After' pictures that we take of every chair we fix. If you're unsure of what chair you have, have a browse around and get in contact with us and we can talk through the work.

The Cane Workshop has a brilliant range of hand made items and most are locally made right here on Alston Moor.

Revamp your heirloom, spruce up your auction bargain, rescue that broken chair from the attic with our own Cane Seat Kits! Everything you need to learn this heritage craft and re-cane a medium sized chair seat.

We are very proud to be stockists of The Woolly Peddler, Supremily Jewellery - beautiful polymer clay millifiori, Hawthorn Handmade needle felting kits and of course our very own Chair Cane Kits. There is also ironmongery, felted pictures, locally grown and woven baskets & much, much more...

At the Cane Workshop, we know everyone that made everything for sale here! All locally made, right here in Alston Moor.

The Cane Workshop is located in the historic market town of Alston, Cumbria, located in the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Alston is ideally located to be used as a base to visit the Yorkshire Dales, Northumbria, Hadrians Wall and a wealth of other places.

Feel free to drop in, ring us up, or email us and ask us questions about what we're doing and how we're doing it!

Stokoe House"Making things is my absolute passion and after 5 years caning as a hobby, I decided to turn it into a business. I cane in the traditional way and only use natural rattan cane. My background has always been in art and craft, and I have a BA(Hons) in Fine Art-Sculpture, from Wimbledon School Of Art.

"I'm based in the beautiful market town of Alston, Cumbria, allegedly the highest market town in England! The Cane Workshop itself is located in Stokoe House right next to the Market Cross in the centre of the town. Stokoe House is a 3 story shop dating back to 1611 and is worth a visit alone!

"I can provide free estimates on request, and maintain extremely high standards for the execution and finish of my cane work.

"It is usual for your piece to be delivered to my studio and collected, but I am willing to make special arrangements on request."
